2021: A year in review

How I started the year, and how I’m finishing it

In December 2020, after a year that nobody would have ever predicted, I found myself on a heart monitor and speaking to cardiologists. Work had increased and projects had reached a critical point and I found myself working round the clock. I committed to not taking this energy into 2021.

2021 has been a year of acceleration for me professionally and personally. I started coaching and training at UCL and it has been a privilege to support their senior leaders and academics over the last year. My team has grown, and I am fortunate to work with a group of amazing associates whose experience, professionalism and expertise I’m grateful to have. I became a Coach of Excellence and added new skills to my training portfolio – NLP masters and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) are two of the additional qualifications I have undertaken.

This year was not rosy by any means. I failed in some areas; I licked my wounds and got back up again. I made some amazing connections and some not so good business decisions – the wrong team members can have a huge impact.

I’ve honoured my boundaries and spent a whole month celebrating my birthday.

Like many others I got COVID and slowed down and allowed my body to heal. Taking time out over Christmas allows me more time for resting and reflection. I’m grateful that I have work in the diary – I already have some great projects lined up.

I walk into 2022 with cautious optimism – knowing the level of resilience that has been developed over the last two years, the contacts I have made, and friendships developed and deepened, because of what has happened and the new direction I’m planning to take the business.

For those that have been a part of the journey, supported me along the way, I thank you. For the clients that have allowed me to support them and provided such amazing feedback, I’m so grateful. For the organisations that opened their doors and allowed me and my team to support their colleagues and clients, thank you again.

What were your highlights and lessons of the year? Who are you grateful for?
